About this deal

See our Remarkables Archive for some that are no longer in print, but which we are happy to try to track down. In 2005, he received his first screenwriting Oscar nomination for co-writing the 2004 film, Before Sunset (a sequel to Before Sunrise). I do believe that the power of the words will shine through in the written text, but I’m totally convinced the way to go with this one is to listen to the reading of the book by the gravelly voiced man himself.

Since "Dead Poets Society" I've admired Ethan Hawke as an actor -- brutally honest, authentic to his character and the piece, and courageous in the choices he makes.

The author's love and admiration for the magic and importance of the theater is palpable and lovely. And he teaches the reader a lot about theater… an engaging book for those who love theater and Shakespeare. I have read reviews for this book that seem almost grudgingly to admit that Ethan Hawke has written a mature novel about separation, identity, accountability, love and the theater. At the same time, he's drinking too much, fearful of losing his kids and stumbling from one damaging sexual encounter to the next.William is determined to tell the truth and shame the devil, but the teller of the tale always holds the reins of our sympathy, which may explain Hawke’s decision to narrate this story in the first person. So, so much faux-deep philosophizing on the nature of fame/meaning of life—like drunk conversations at a Hollywood party. THE SUNDAY TIMES CULTURE “Hawke ha seguido la máxima escribe de lo que conoces, trayendo el mundo del teatro a la vida, desde el primer ensayo al estreno final”. Likewise, his Lady Percy was the estimable Audra McDonald, and she doesn't seem to fit her fictional counterpart here also. I'm not sure what it was exactly, because the thought of reading a book about an actor starring in his first broadway play, doing Shakespeare of all things, while in the midst of a third-life crisis, didn't sound super up my alley.

Es gibt keinen Charakter, der in der Geschichte verschwendet wird, und jeder hat seine Zeilen in der Geschichte verdient. Having read his other work––his second book Ash Wednesday being a letdown (for me)––this just blew my mind! This guy has more Yoda-figures in his life than most of us have Chewbacca-figures on our hardwood floors (rug burn joke). Shaping the entire novel around this production provides a frame that literally dramatizes the themes of the story, propelling it forward even while William wallows in self-pity.In 2001, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Training Day. Several cast members serve as metaphor while they share insights about life and relationships with script dialog that magnifies its importance. Inside the play it felt possible that I was not a person defined by his adultery, or his unloving parents, or his lies, his failure as a father.
