About this deal

Now Budweiser has released a “new” version of “Prohibition”, this time more simply named Budweiser “Zero”. I recently had a chance to find out more about the brand—and how it is competing on the market—by talking with one of the company’s executives, the New York-based Monica Rustgi, vice president of marketing for Budweiser. Dwyane helped design the core attributes of the product, including the packaging, and will be involved in future advertising tied to the product. this is a good option for anyone who really can’t have even that amount of alcohol for health reasons or sobriety.

It’s pretty refreshing and if you were going to reach for a light beer, this is a pretty satisfying alternative. With interest surging in the nolo beer market, of course the big players are going to get their own non-alcoholic products on the shelves and in the taps.

In the glass, I suppose you could be forgiven in believing it’s a Bud as it has a light amber look and a short frothy head. By all means, give it a go but there are many, many, many better tasting alcohol-free beers than this. This means that you can enjoy the familiar flavors of Budweiser, whether you're the designated driver or enjoy a lifestyle that includes non-alcoholic beer. It’s crisp and clean, but there is a lot more maltiness and as mentioned above, a slight rice after-taste from the rice used in the brewing process. Beer is something that people love, so it doesn’t have to be binary decision of drinking beer with alcohol or not drinking a beer at all.

Hopes of leading a healthier life has led some drinkers to recalibrate their relationship with alcohol, leading to the rise of mocktails and the “sober curious” movement. Budweiser Prohibition launched in late 2017, but struggled in the supermarkets: latest Nielsen data shows it lost a fifth of its value over the past 12 months, dropping 19. Budweiser Prohibition Brew (harking back to the drink they offered in the US between 1920 and 1933) was introduced to the UK market in 2017, packed with a hefty 110 calories and 1. Treacle, coffee, roasted malts and vanilla on the nose, restrained bitterness with more roasted grains, coffee and a slight caramel sweetness as we taste.

Rice is quite common in mass-produced beer because it’s fermentable but doesn’t add as much flavour as grain like barley and wheat. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it to be accurate, it is not a substitute for reading the product packaging and label prior to use. Reviews marked with † feature beers I didn't pay for (usually because the producers gave them to me for free).
